Originally the gba sp exist with 001 screen and some rare ones with 101 screen. Ags 001 is okay. It's visible. But most people want to upgrade that to ips screens. Ags 101 looks good. It's different from ips screens. Some games looks better on the 101, some look better on the ips screen. Bit subjective.
AGS-001 vs AGS-001 vs AGS-101. AGS-101 vs AGS-001. As you can see, the colors on the AGS-101 are much more pronounced and the AGS-001 looks kinda blurry in comparison. It's important to keep in mind that each console has their own pros and cons and that this is all subjective preference.
The reason why I can't decide is because I find possible flaws with both of them: *GBA SP has clicky buttons. *GBA SP is kinda cramped to hold. *but GBA SP AGS-101 has an awesome backlit LARGE screen. *I'm worried I'll think the Micro's screen is too small. *I'm worried I'll think the Micro itself is too small to hold.
One of the most noticeable differences between the GBA SP 101 and 001 is the screen technology. The GBA SP 001 featured a frontlit display, which was an improvement over the original Game Boy Advance but still had limitations in terms of visibility in various lighting conditions.
A comparison of the two different lighting technologies on the Game Boy Advance SP. The leftmost (purple) SP unit is the later AGS-101 model, with a backlight (like the Micro, DS Lite, DSi or 3DS). The rightmost (black) SP unit is the much more common older AGS-001 (front-lit) model. The smaller silver device is a Game Boy Micro (which is a Game Boy Advance in terms of the hardware platform
The GBA SP is a little more comfortable to hold, and you just have the one beautiful screen in front of you. Now, if you were comparing the AGS-001 (pre-backlit model) vs. the DS lite, I would choose the DS lite. anonymoose_octopus • 10 yr. ago. Thanks for the comparisons, it really helped. I used to have a DS, and I completely agree about
GBA did gave two flavors of ribbon cable but the IPS kits have universal ribbons for that. SP 101 is backlit (not front lit like the 001) most find the 101 to be great and usually costs more. So like the other reply dont spend extra to get similar results. Upgraded gba is the most improvement for your investment. 001 upgrade is an improvement.

Original GBA (AGS-001 model, 40 pin board). Before you tell me to put AGS-101 backlit screen, please stop, because i already have that GBA SP and i'm not salvaging it for the screen, i perfectly happy with it as it is. The reason why i'm not using ANOTHER 101 screen is price mostly and availability.

ArjanGameboyman • 9 mo. ago. No. The pcb is different. There is a mod you could do to the 001 pcb to make the 101 screen work but it's complicated and i don't know if the parts are still available. Best thing to do is to sell yours and buy a legit 101. However i do recommend you reconsider ips. 101 screens are all dying of light bleed.
I have been referring to Gekkio's schematics for a while now. For the large part, they've been very helpful but it's for an AGS-001, and not a 101 so there are a number of differences with the PCB layout and charge/power circuity (updated integrated power IC). So, the charging circuit wasn't working at all even before I shorted the F2 fuse.
Yes ips screen does work with mobo 001. 2. sciencetaco. • 10 mo. ago. The Funnyplaying IPS screens have the optional wire to solder for brightness. Without it, the screen will be stuck at a default brightness. If you do solder that wire, then pressing the button on the Gameboy will cycle through multiple brightness levels.
